Running Gear
Throughout the past four years, I’ve tried several products, but these have proven to be the best options for me.
Shoes
As someone who has needed a stability shoe, I definitely love my Asics- Gel Kayano 30. I have purchased more than one pair, and even ran the marathon in them.
Watch
I used to wear an Apple watch, and it certainly did the job. It wasn’t until I really wanted to hone in on metrics such as my heart rate and cadence, and I ended up purchasing the Pace 2 watch from Coros. It has amazing features that allow you track your sleep, training plan, heart rate to being compatible with apps such as Strava. My favorite feature is that it has an incredible battery life! I started the marathon at 100% and ended around 90%. I was incredibly impressed. I also like the simple design, and how comfortable the band was.
Headphones
I love my Powerbeats Pro! They have a 9 hour battery life, Bluetooth connection and fit comfortably for my small ears. I have had issues in the past with headphones hurting my ears, but I’ve used these for weight training and running, and have yet to have any bad experience. I also like that the case charges them.
Socks
They truly make all the difference. I used to run with cotton socks, but once I purchased Feetures, I’ve had much more comfortable runs. They are compression socks that provide cushioning! I’ve always recommended these, and have also ran various distances in them without any blisters or cuts.
Chafing Balm
My favorite by far is Megababe’s Thigh Rescue! It is an anti-chafe stick that prevents chafing and irritation. I have used this for every run since purchasing it! I always put it on my shoulders to prevent chafing from my sports bra, as well as bra lines, digging waist bands and on my thighs. It has always worked for me better than any other anti-chafe stick that I’ve tried. I used to chafe really bad to the point where the fabric of my clothing would cut my skin and then leave scars, but this has been a fantastic buy! They have a regular sized and mini, so I like having both for convenience.
Running Vest
I never used to wear a vest, but It wasn’t until I started training for longer distances is when I decided I needed one. It has simplified so much for me! I’m able to have water, carry my keys, my salt sticks, energy chews and most importantly my inhaler. I use an Active Skin 4 Hydration Vest by Salomon! The fabric is breathable and lightweight. It comes with two soft water flasks, which were something I didn’t know I needed until this vest. The vest also has a lot of compartments ranging from expandable pockets to pockets with zippers to ensure your items stay safe and secure.
Fuel
Once I started to run longer distances, I started to try out different gels and bars! You definitely have to try different things to see how your stomach will react. I instantly fell in love with the energy bars made by Skratch Labs! They have different flavors, and have been my go-to whenever I need to eat before a run. Another product from them is their energy chews. During long runs, I’d eat some of these after every 30-40 minutes to get glucose + fructose to speed the absorption of energy.
My favorite electrolyte mix is by LMNT! They are sugar free, and taste so good! I personally used to use Liquid IV but was recommended to move away from sugary electrolytes.
Lastly, I used Bloks by Clif! These are energy chews that is an easy car source. Whenever you run for long distances, your body starts to lose glycogen, so consuming carbohydrates during can help your body sustain the activity for a longer duration.
If you happen to try any of these out, I’d love to hear your thoughts : )
